Discover the different types of hair accessories
There are dozens! Yes ladies, there are many types of accessories to adorn your hair. However, when it comes to choosing the hair accessory for your wedding or a special occasion, you don't want to regret your choice. In this article, we'll walk you through your different options, tell you what type of hairstyle they're made for, and tell you about the pros and cons of each. If you already have a hairstyle idea, this information will be very useful when choosing your hair jewelry!
THE FAMOUS HAIR COMB
The comb has passed through many generations. Since the time of our grandmothers, the hair comb has always accompanied the elegance of women who comb their hair to match their beautiful clothes.
Even today, it is a very versatile accessory, which adapts very easily to a large number of hairstyles. This is why it is among the most used for your wedding ceremonies. The hair comb is this most often metallic rigid structure, with fine and tight teeth which will allow the good placement and good stabilization of it on your hair.
The size of the comb plays an important role. This is indeed what will determine its use and positioning. A long comb will often be used to be placed at the back of the head, on a low bun for example. Indeed, a large comb being a little heavier, needs a good amount of hair to remain stable on the hairstyle, which is why a bun is the ideal hairstyle. Medium or small combs can be placed on the side, behind the ear, at the back on a ponytail or on a bun.
A big advantage of the comb is that it is very easy to place and comfortable to wear. However, we advise you to think about its weight and length to know if it will suit your desired hairstyle.
HAIRPICKS
The particularity of this hair accessory is its metallic U shape . Hair picks or sometimes called bun picks are often smaller hair jewels, compared to combs, which offer great freedom when styling them. Their size and shape allow the parts to be placed separately or next to each other.
These accessories are most often used to adorn a bun, braids or ponytails. If they were fashionable in our grandmothers' days for their elegant updos, we find them being used more and more to accessorize loose hair with twisted locks or half-tails nowadays.
A great advantage of these hairdressing accessories is their lightness and small size which makes them very comfortable and versatile. Nevertheless, it is important to take into account the length of the peaks because on a low volume hairstyle, the bottom of the peaks could appear.
HEADBANDS, HEADBANDS AND CROWNS
Headband, headband, headband, crown , what's the difference? These words seem to refer to very similar accessories. We explain the subtle difference.
A headband is that rigid structure that goes around the head but remains open. On the contrary, the headband, also called headband in English, is flexible and has an elastic which allows it to adapt to all head sizes. The crown is a type of headband that has embossed ornaments and therefore, generally more imposing. The headband is often flat while the crown has a high structure.
Once we understand the difference, we can talk about hairstyles! These three categories of accessories are suitable for most hairstyles. Whether it's a headband, a headband or a crown, this accessory will perfectly complement a bun, a ponytail, a half ponytail or loose hair. Small particularity for the headband or headband which covers the hair in such a way as to cover the elastic by wrapping wicks around it. This is called the half-covered or covered headband.
These hair accessories are very practical and easy to install. On the other hand, note that the metal structures of the headbands or crowns can be tight and sometimes become uncomfortable over the hours.
THE VINES
The name of this hair accessory may come up less often in bridal hairstyle descriptions, but that doesn't mean it isn't used! Hair vines are very adaptable accessories and that's why they are a hit.
To describe it, this hair accessory is characterized by its malleability. It is often made using metallic threads to which flowers, pearls or crystals are embellished. There are two types of hair vines: those that attach to your hairstyle with clips and those that have small combs at the ends. This type of hairdressing jewel is designed to adapt to all hairstyles, to adorn your head or your chignons as you wish.
Due to its malleability, the hair vine can be worn on the head like a headband or crown or placed in your bun at the back or side of your head. It gives you a lot of different hairstyle options to wear proudly and elegantly on your wedding day!
BARRETTES
The barrette is the most practical hair accessory and the one we use the most in everyday life. This modern hair accessory is worn by little girls as well as by beautiful elegant ladies and young ladies. It is a very feminine accessory that does not require much effort to give a simple hairstyle a refined touch.
There are several types of barrettes. The support and closure system of the barrette can determine its function on a hairstyle. At Atelier Lilac we mainly work with two types of barrettes, the clip barrette and the pressure barrette. Clip-on barrettes are often small or medium-sized jewels to be placed on one side of the hairstyle or behind to style a half-ponytail with fine locks. The pressure bar, the one that must be opened with the index finger and thumb, will allow you to style larger strands of hair most often at the back of the head.
The advantage of the barrette is that it is a trendy accessory, which you can wear both on a special occasion such as your religious or civil wedding and for your daily outings. It will thus become an accessory and head jewelry in your wardrobe in its own right!
